Visit the FARM SHED MUSEUM and find out about the mineral discovery that put Yorke Peninsula on the world map.
The museum, located at the Copper Coast Visitor Information Centre in Kadina, brings together some of the fascinating developments and practices of dry land farming. Exhibits show the hardships endured on the land, detailing the process of land clearing, reliving the vital roles of animals on farms and exploring the transition from horse to tractor-powered farming.
You will discover:
- A way of rural life in South Australia
- A magnificent collection of vintage tractors.
- A delightful display highlighting women's contributions to farming.
- Fascinating stories about local characters
- An impressive display of farming machinery.
- More than a century of Australian farming history.
- One of cereal farming's greatest innovations, the stump-jump plough.
Visitors will also be delighted by Matta House, a mine manager's residence from the 1860s as it stands refurbished in it's original location. Memories of school days gone by will come alive when you enter the 1950s school. You will leave with renewed appreciation of how far the Copper Coast has come, and also an appreciation of the tremendous work and expertise which has gone into creating such high standard displays.

Ray Robinson Memorial Military Museum
YP VETERANS AND COMMUNITY CENTRE
PORT ROAD, KADINA
Minister for Veterans' Affairs Alan Griffin cut the ribbon to officially open the Raymond Robinson Memorial Military Museum at the Yorke Peninsula Veterans and Community Centre, on Port Road, Kadina on 1st November 2008.
The late Raymond Robinson was from Fisherman's Bay, and was the second Australian on the ground in Vietnam.
"The highly decorated ex-serviceman served in Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam and his ashes are in our memorial garden," centre spokesperson Mike Rodsted said.
"He was a driving force behind the establishment of this centre and the museum is a fitting memorial."
Around 100 people joined guests at the opening, including Deputy Commissioner for the Department of Veterans' Affairs SA/NT Ian Kelly, National President of the Vietnam Veterans Association Ron Coxon, members of the Veterans Review Board Trina McConnell and Michael Griffin, State Presidents of the Vietnam Veterans Association, ex-Vietnam members of the Australian Army Training Team and former members of the 7th Royal Australian Regiment.
Work began on the museum structure early this year, with funding through Work for the Dole. All contents are from members' personal mementos or loaned from members of the community.
"We are looking for anything militaria to exhibit, which will be held in our registry on loan. This area has such a rich service history. Please don't throw it out. It must be preserved," Mike said.
The museum is openTuesday & Wednesday 9am-3pm.
